Faith and Fire is not a work of creative writing or theological speculation; rather, it is a mission report - a ground level account of the current state of the Indian church and its missions. This book comes from a deep-rooted passion for the Church in India, a calling to bring attention to what has been overlooked for too long, and a desire to restore the mission of the Gospel to its rightful place - one that brings honour to God.
Throughout its chapters, this book addresses issues that have long hindered the Indian church: divisions based on caste, distorted doctrines, increasing persecution, conversions, and the relentless rise of Hindutva - an aggressive form of Hindu nationalism. For centuries, many of these problems were either ignored or swept under the rug. But in today’s climate, where challenges are intensifying, they can no longer remain unaddressed. This book is a call to uncover these hidden issues, to confront what has been buried, and to realign the church and missions with God’s true purpose.
The goal of this book is straightforward: to provide the reader with a clear understanding of how missions in India have evolved and, most importantly, to lead them into informed prayer for the Indian church. The issues discussed here are not easy to solve, but they are not insurmountable either. With open eyes and hearts fully committed to Christ, there is hope for revival and renewal in India’s church and mission fields.
It is my prayer that this book will encourage thoughtful reflection and ignite a passion to see the Indian church rise to meet the challenges of our time, strengthened and restored for God’s glory.
"I was drawn to the book, “Faith and Fire” and was inspired by PK Shan’s overview and call to missions in India. I have worked with several people from India who are devout Hindu’s and are from the highly educated Brahmins caste system. Yet most of the Christians in India are from the untouchables (Dalits). PK discusses the history of Christianity in India and then focuses on the struggle with missions in India today. The church has lost its purpose and biblical foundation and struggles against the intense persecution. If you want an up-to-date overview of what the Lord is doing in India and how you can help then I highly recommend this book."
"Having visited and ministered in India for many years, I have endeavoured to glean snippets of knowledge and information about the history and the work of God in this beautiful, complex and very diverse continent of India.
However, my overview and grasp of this topic has been at best shallow and lacking.
So I am much indebted to PK Shan for writing such a clear, informative and concise account of this most important subject, in his magnificent new book “Faith and Fire”.
I wholeheartedly recommend it.
Reading the short Preface, I wondered if what PK had set out to address and provide would be possible in a relatively short book.
But any doubts were quickly dispersed.
The research is accurate, the writing style is crisp, compelling, clear and even prophetic; his passion and vision for the church’s way forward and expansion of the Gospel of Jesus is both challenging and envisioning.
I could go on at length in my admiration and gratitude for this book, but instead I just humbly challenge you, get hold of this book, devour it, tell others about it, let the Holy Spirit use this labour of love to move us to pray, to be courageous in difficult times to believe and see the Indian church rise up and go forward, strengthen and revived for the glory of God."
